SCRATCH is a new series of improvised music events that aim to encourage an open dialogue among audiences, musicians and artists, building dynamics that may not have formed organically otherwise.
Storiel Bangor have very kindly offered us their upper gallery for our gigs and we very much hope that through the interaction of performers and audiences within the space SCRATCH events will also generate something of a unique sonic response to the content of the works on display. The first SCRATCH performance will be held on Wed November 13th and will feature improvised sets from KOO, Richard Craig, Simon Proffit and Ash Cooke.
Having first performed together over 10 years ago Koo is a mighty trio of Welsh improv legends featuring Fiona and Gorwel Owen and Jim Knight.
Resurrected especially for SCRATCH the group mix subtle sonic layers and interludes with minimalist contact mic investigations.
From Clydebank, Richard is regarded as one of the most versatile and talented young flautists in the UK. Renowned for his compositional work and translation of contemporary pieces in large ensembles Richard is also equally at home as a solo performer exploring improvisation and electronics.
Simon Proffitt & Ash Cooke
Fierce exponents of free improvisation, Simon & Ash recently formed this uncompromising duo to deconstruct commonly held preconceptions surrounding the sonic capabilities of the acoustic guitar through what they term as 'Gwrth-gitâr'.
Having recently released their debut album via London label Linear Obsessional the duo make thier first visit to Bangor.
